Inauguration of The New 2.5" Gauge Track
We organised a grand inauguration event, inviting most of
the 2.5" community. September 23rd turned out to be better
than the weather forecast predicted, with the rain holding off
until our visitors had departed. A good time was had by
all concerned and our track received many compliments!

The crowds gather around the steaming bays. In view of
the weather forecast - showers expected - we erected our
large gazebo over some of the bays to protect our
visitors. In the event, the rain didn't materialise
until after everyone had gone home!
|
The grand opening. Our youngest member, Ben Williams, cut
the ribbon to allow his granddad, our Chairman Barry, make the
first official lap, closely followed by several other locos.

Chairman Barry, steaming round on the first official lap of
the track.
|
Slight holdup at the top end of the track. Well, it is the
longest UK 2.5" track. These little engines need a rest
sometimes....

Peter de Salis-Johnston from Stafford with his Millenium Faye
|
John Baguley with his almost-finished 4-8-4 tank engine,
Helen Long(ish). He can't decide what colour to paint it!
He's not risking running out of water around our longgg... track.

Norman Almond from Fylde.

The following photos were supplied by our Hon Sec, Duncan
Webster:
|
Bruce Ellis' 0-6-4 Fairlie (or should that be 0-6-0-4?) under
construction. This should be a powerful little engine when
she's finished.
|
Another view of Bruce's Fairlie. Also in the picture is a 2.5"
boiler under construction, also by Bruce.
|
Our interpid chairman struggles against the odds to get his
Crab to brew up.
|
Dave Illet was having a bit more success with his Dyak Queen.
That's real steam blowing off!
|
Norma Almond's little electric loco. Despite only having one
small electric motor it succeeded in taking him around the
track at a modest pace while the steam locos were still
thinking about lighting up.
|
Millenium Faye taking a moments rest. This loco won the Curly
Bowl a few years back. A very nice little engine.
|
John Baguley's Helen Long(ish) hauls him up the bank
approaching the station.
|
Dave Illet cleans out the smokebox after a days running.
|
Millenium Faye gets a bit more oil before setting off again.

Another engine to the LBSC Fayette design. This one hails from
Stockport.

Another shot of Norman Almond's Southern loco.
|
A better shot of the opening ceremony. Ben cuts the tape as
proud grandfather prepares to set off on the first lap.
Thanks to Jenny Harrison for this photo.

Some photos supplied by Norman Fairhurst. These are only low
resolution shots, so it's no good clicking for higher
resolution versions.
